Why a business plan generated by AI convinces no one
By Daniel Schäfer, Business Consultant & Founder at X-Group
In short: More and more founders are coming to us with an AI-generated business plan – convinced that they are ready to launch. However, when we review them, we regularly find 20 to 30 missing points, 20 to 30 factually incorrect statements about the market and competition – and above all, a financial plan that is far from ready for financing. This article explains why AI-generated business plans fail and what authorities, banks and investors actually want to see.

1. The problem: AI-generated business plans convince no one
A business plan created with AI convinces neither the employment agency nor a bank – and certainly not an investor. Nor will it help you if you are applying to a landlord with your business model.
Since 2002, X-Group has been supporting founders and established entrepreneurs in successfully implementing their business ideas, growing, and financing new projects. Over 4,000 projects supported in the last 20 years show exactly how authorities, banks, funding institutions and investors operate. And more and more clients are coming to us saying: “I created my business plan with AI.”
“We read through it and check for errors – and in the end, we have a long list of 20 to 30 points.”
2. Two lists of errors that we find in almost every AI-generated plan
When cross-checking an AI-generated business plan, X-Group typically creates two lists:
- List 1 – what is missing: 20 to 30 points that are simply not included in the plan, but are absolutely essential for authorities, banks, or investors.
- List 2 – what is incorrect: another 20 to 30 points where the AI hallucinates – incorrect statements about the market, competitors, or industry trends.
Both lists together mean: Before the actual submission, a comprehensive revision is required.
3. The biggest weakness: an incomplete financial plan
The biggest problem with AI-generated business plans is almost always the financial plan. A turnkey, bank-ready financial plan requires much more than a rough revenue estimate:
- revenue forecast
- Cost planning including variable costs
- profit and loss statement
- liquidity planning
- tax planning
- debt service planning
Usually, a realistic personnel plan and marketing cost plan is also missing – or both are not in any comprehensible relation to the projected revenues. Yet it is precisely these components that make a business plan or loan application complete – regardless of whether it is submitted to the authority for the start-up grant (Gründungszuschuss), to the bank, or to investors for start-up capital.
4. What authorities, banks and investors really want to see
Authorities, banks and investors want to see a plausible, viable and realistic business model – one that they can compare with similar types of companies. So what you submit must stand up to a realistic comparison with similar competitors. The figures must be plausible, on a monthly basis over three years projected into the future.
5. Numbers first, then the text
Only when the figures are complete and plausible does the explanatory text around them make any sense: how much staff you need, how your prices are determined, how costs are derived, what the market looks like, and how your marketing costs are planned so that the targeted customers or contracts can actually be reached. This interlinking of figures and text is something that no AI can reliably provide today.
6. Conclusion: Your next steps
Do you want to structure your project so that you receive start-up capital or at least grants for your start-up? Then a free initial consultation is worthwhile. We analyse your potential – based on feasibility (is the business idea viable at all?) and on financial viability. We search for suitable funding opportunities for your project, and X-Group is certified nationwide and can apply for up to 100% subsidies for the consultation itself.
